During January 2024, our inaugural workshop series brought together a diverse group of women - professionals and students - to talk about ocean mapping, career paths and opportunities, and to contribute to the creation of a complete map of the ocean floor.
During the 2024 Girl Talk Program, participants engaged in the processing of data from two research cruises in the Pacific Ocean, encompassing a collective area of 91,599 square kilometers—equivalent to the size of Portugal or the US state of Indiana. The data processing involved the utilization of Qimera, with subsequent reviews conducted using GeoMapApp and GMRT. We extend our sincere appreciation to QPS for generously donating Qimera licenses, a valuable contribution that significantly enriched the Girl Talk Program. Processed data have been archived and published with a Data Digital Object Identifier (DOI). Conducted in 2015, this research cruise explored an area of seamounts in the Eastern Pacific. Raw data were downloaded from the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) multibeam archive. Final processed data are curated within the
Marine Geoscience Data System.
