Overview

Girl Talk 2024

During January 2024, our inaugural workshop series brought together a diverse group of  professionals and students to talk about ocean mapping, career paths and opportunities, and to contribute to the creation of a complete map of the ocean floor.

Program Outcomes

During the 2024 Girl Talk Program, participants processed data from two research cruises in the Pacific Ocean, covering a combined area of 91,599 square kilometers—equivalent to the size of Portugal or the US state of Indiana. The data processing involved the commercial software Qimera, and openly available geospatial tools including GeoMapApp and GMRT. We extend our sincere appreciation to QPS for generously donating Qimera licenses, a valuable contribution that significantly enriched the Girl Talk Program. Processed data have been archived and published with a Data Digital Object Identifier (DOI). Scroll down to explore interactive Story Maps created by participants to describe what they learned during the program.
